That is a saving of roughly $1,620 a year, before you factor in servicing, which is also lower for EVs.

How much does it cost to charge an EV at home?

It depends on your electricity tariff and how efficient the car is. At a typical Australian rate of around $0.30 per kWh and energy use of 16 kWh/100km, charging costs about $4.80 per 100km. On an off-peak or solar-feed tariff it can drop well below that, while public DC fast charging at $0.45 to $0.70 per kWh costs roughly two to three times more than charging at home.

Do EVs save money overall?

Not always. EVs are cheaper to fuel and service, but they often have a higher purchase price and can depreciate differently to petrol cars. Whether you come out ahead depends on how many kilometres you drive, the price gap on the cars you are comparing, and how long you keep the vehicle.
