How much does my drive cost in petrol?

Fuel cost = total kilometres ÷ 100 × your fuel economy (L/100km) × the price per litre. For an 800km return trip (1,600km total) in a car using 8 L/100km at $1.95/L, you'll burn about 128 litres and pay roughly $249.60 in fuel. Source: arithmetic based on your figures.

Worked example — carpooling. That same $249.60 trip split between four mates is just $62.40 each — versus the full $249.60 if you drive alone. Sharing the drive three ways still drops your share to $83.20.
