How much will a rent increase cost me?

A rent increase costs you the weekly difference multiplied by 52 over a year. For example, a 5% rise on $550 a week adds about $27.50 per week — roughly $1,430 a year. Source: state and territory tenancy authorities (general).

Worked example. Current rent $550/week, a 5% increase. New rent is $577.50/week, which is $27.50 more per week and $1,430 more over a full year.
