True Hourly Wage Calculator

See what an hour of your working life is really worth once you count the unpaid commute and the money work costs you. The gap to your headline rate is often bigger than you'd expect.

What do I really earn per hour?

Less than your salary suggests. Your headline rate is just pay divided by paid hours. Your true hourly wage counts the unpaid commute and subtracts what work costs you — transport, parking, lunch and coffee. Hidden time and costs commonly cut an effective wage by 20-30%. Source: ASIC MoneySmart.

Worked example. On $80,000 for a 38-hour week the headline rate is about $40/hr. Add a 5-hour weekly commute and $80 of work costs and your true wage drops to roughly $32/hr — about 20% lower, which is what to weigh against a job closer to home.
