How do I calculate 10% GST in Australia?

Add GST: multiply the ex-GST price by 1.1. Remove GST: divide the GST-inclusive price by 1.1. Find the GST component in an inclusive price: divide by 11 — not by 10, because the 10% GST has been added to the ex-GST base, not the inclusive total. GST is a 10% flat rate applied to most goods and services sold in Australia. Source: Australian Taxation Office.

Worked examples. $500 ex-GST → $550 inclusive ($50 GST). $1,100 inclusive → $1,000 ex-GST ($100 GST = $1,100 ÷ 11). $2,750 inclusive → $250 GST. Businesses must register for GST at $75,000 turnover($150,000 for non-profits). Basic food, most health, education, and childcare are GST-free.
